My dream goal

I have a dream …

I am 53 and still love cycling (MTB). I am an adventurer - not a racer, only do cycling for the fun and health of it. I try to the longer distance (enduro) events, like the To Hell and Back, Transbaviaans etc. I am living in Centurion in Gauteng and is looking for MTB’rs who would like to partake in my dream/goal.

My goal for 2010 is to do the Transbaviaans in Aug, the To Hell and Back in November and then the Desert Dash in Dec.

I will, for the first part of 2010, do a couple of shorter races/rides and some long hours in the saddle when not doing official rides. A lot of my training is on a spinning bike and some gym work. One of the training rides that I will do is the GABRAN in May 2010. Highly recommended.
(www.westcycle.co.za) This is a great 3 day fun cycling event. Good to get your bum on the saddle for a couple of hours.

I also plan a three day training session in Venda and in Mpumalanga. Details will be discussed with group.

As you know two of the mayor stumbling blocks to achieve a goal like this are motivation to keep on training and that is very hard if you do not have training partners. The second thing is the cost of getting to these events. Like I said in the beginning, I am looking for people who would like to take part in my 2010 dream. I have a Sprinter bus with luxury seat and a bike trailer that caters for 16 bikes. If we can club together and share the transport cost to these events, it will be in reach and affordable to all of us.

The ultimate idea is to get 14 MTB’rs together as a team and practice together over weekends and partake in the same events as far as possible.

Ek is gelukkig om al baie van my drome waar te kon maak:
Ry Desember my 4de Sabie Experience,
Het al die Kalahari Challenge in Botswana gedoen, die Rooiberg Eco Ride, Sani Pass, Giant's Challenge, ens.
Is self 55 jr "jonk" en soek 'n spanmaat om die stage races mee te doen.
Sien ek jou dalk die 7de November in Magoebaskloof?

Nee ongelukkig gaan ek jou nie die 7de daar sien nie. Het reeds dinge vir daardie dag aan, aangesien dit my verjaarsdag is.

Die hele idee van die Droom van my is om ondernader ouens bymekaar te kry om saam te oefen en saam aan wedrenne deel te neem. (Ek is bang om dit wedrenne te noem aangesien ek nie jaag nie. Ek geniet die omgewing en ry net teen myself.) Die ander rede is om te kyk of mens saam kan ry na byeenkomste om sodoende die kostes te kan deel.

Wat my droom /goals aanbetref het ek al twee van die drie gedoen, nl 2 keer To Hell and Back en die jaar die Transbaviaans gedoen (Sien my verslag ook hier). Die verskil is ek wil die drie soos genoem in een jaar doen. Die Desert dash wil ek single doen en nie as span nie aangesien ek die 340km non-stop wil doen. My idee is om ouens te kry wat dit ook so wil doen maar dan nog steeds as groep saam ry. Kan mos net lekker wees.

Ander rede hoekom jy my nie by Magoebas gaan sien nie is omdat ek tans tyd afvat van my fiets en net bietjie gym werk doen. So ek is heeltemal te onfiks om nou Magoebas se 75km te gaan pak. Sal dalk miskien die 40km kan klaar maak

Ek het nou lank en hard hieroor gedink en getop. Moet ek op my fiets klim, moet ek die togte meemaak, moet ek suffer, moet ek so hard oefen - maar toe tref dit my EK HET MOS 'N CRUISER - so dankie vir die uitnodiging maar nee dankie - O-ja ek is nog (ver) onder 50!!!

My dream year started well. I got rid of my extra 5kg over the festive season. Now time to get my legs rolling after some time off over December. My first race will be the Emperors Classic on the 6 Feb.

Ek dog ons verwys nie na "race" nie maar eerder na "adventure"

I myself do not cycle, but could consider to be available as back-up on the adventure if you would require such a service. this is all dependant on timing and leave availibility etc on my side. in any case, may your dreams come true
